Golf Still at Royal Yea

Due to the wet conditions we have received in the North East over the last three weeks several neighbourhood clubs have been forced to shut down. We have been lucky so far as carts can just get around. Forecasted rain early this week may see our course have to follow suit though as ground maintenance becomes impossible.

Saturday saw a bit of sunshine and we had 25 golfers on the course plus several green fee players. Best of the men’s competition with 39 points was visitor Russ Haack(16) from Eildon GC. Second was Anthony Coleman(6) with 35 points including an eagle on the 10th(holed out from 130m). Third was Jeff Aurisch(18) 34 from fourth Martin Lowe(18) 34 and Tony Rule(20) fifth with 33.

Anthony retrieves his ball on the 10th.

NTP on the 18th was Ken Whitfort and Kevin King from Eildon won the Club Award. The President V Captain team event was won by the President’s team with a 28.72 to 27.66 average. Teams were drawn after competition. The winning team received a free drink each.

We are proud to see a young local boy taking on golf. Tom White is showing good form and playing rounds to establish himself a handicap. A reminder that Junior membership costs nothing at Yea and we welcome any interested person to contact the club re joining.

In Chooklotto John Phillips took home the poultry. Anthony “Eaglerock” Coleman the stubbie holder with Greg Clements wins the Sponsor Award. Mic Spagnolo won the Darwin golfing accessories.

Wednesday’s golf will probably be called off. Check WhatsApp for updates.
