Yea Ladies Newsletter
8th April 2026
Greetings fellow golfers,
It was a small field of ladies who contested the first round of the Kath Homewood 36-hole event on Wednesday 1st April. Under unseasonably warm conditions, eight ladies enjoyed the stroke event. Jan Wealands and yours truly had a friendly tussle all round with the final two holes deciding the eventual first and second place. Meryl Connell (26) finished first on this occasion with 69 nett while Jan (29) was just pipped at the post with a very impressive 71 nett. Jan played many exceptional shots so should be well pleased with her game. Christine Simmons (21) also played beautifully and came in third place with 72 nett. Cindy Armstrong however was ready to ditch her putter today and find one that works!!!! We all have those days, Cindy! Penny Britton took out the NTP award this week. Thank you to Jan and Meryl for providing a lovely lunch to share.
The final round of the Kath Homewood trophy will be played on 29th April.
Saturday 4th April saw nine ladies enjoy the Stableford competition with Cindy Armstrong heading back to the top of the ladder with 36 points.
Our Wednesday competition on 8th April, was a mixed Stableford event with the men playing from the white tees. It was the most glorious of Autumn days and the course was in immaculate condition. Thirty-four players turned up to enjoy the conditions (including 12 ladies), and chase the higher cash prize!! Some players looked as though they were making hard work of it on the 5th – both Margie and Meryl enjoying some tree-love!
At the end of the day, three players finished with an outstanding 38 points. Congratulations to Tom White who won on a count back from Meryl Connell (25) and Di Elliott (29). To round out a good day for the ladies, Cindy Armstrong won the NTP.
Next Monday, 13th April, Yea hosts the Pennant competition. Thank you to the those volunteering to help on the day.
And don’t forget the social competition on Thursday mornings for those wishing to play nine holes. Please contact Michelle Willey for details.
Until next time……Happy Golfi
