Slow Track Doesn’t Deter Golfers

Despite extra heavy recent rain the Stewards declared a good track for Wednesdays Stableford event at Royal Yea Golf Club.
The Colts and Geldings event attracted 16 entries including some that have recent good form.
Mick Spagnolo (6) took out the event in a photo finish from Phil Armstrong (22) when they both finished with the excellent score of 39 points.
Martin Lowe (19) who has had recent success on good tracks showed his versatility to take out third place with 35 points. A fast finish from John Phillips (18) saw him just get pipped and take home fourth place on Countback. John responded with a quinella taking home the NTP on the 2nd hole.
The stewards report noted that several starters weren’t suited by the heavier going and that Russell Haack was swabbed post event and awarded the Club Award.
In the Mares and Fillies event 13 starters went to the barriers. Proven stayer Miranda Gill (17) showed all her experience to take out the event with 35 points, turning the table on Cindy Armstrong (32) with 34 points. These two would be at low priced odds for the quinella at their next start.
Khai Jarvis (37) filled the minor placing with 30 points showing the benefit of recent starts in the northern regions.
Di Elliott , Margie Wright and Sharon Grogan also finished with 30 points but they had to settle for a well done girls. There was no NTP on the 2nd Hole for the Ladies.
