Royal Yea Golf Club Report
Conditions on the course over the past few weeks have remained heavy, with preferred lies still in play. Hopefully, with the recent rain behind us, we can look forward to some sunnier weather and the arrival of spring.
Wednesday, 29th July saw 16 men contest a Par event, with Luke Gregory (9) blitzing the field with a superb +5. Jim Redmond (23) was next best with -2, followed by Alan Pell (13) on -4 and Zach Pell (12) on -5. Bob Glenister won the NTP on the 10th for two, while Carl Maffei took out the Club Award.
Saturday, 1st August was the second round of the 54-Hole Event, with Trevor Connell (21) taking the honours with -3. Anthony La Grutta (14) and Peter Johnston (15) both finished on -4. There was no NTP on the 2nd, while John Tanner won the Club Award.
In the Ladies Stableford, Meryl Connell (23) made it a family double, winning with 31 points. Sharon Grogan (32) and Christine Simmons (25) were next, both finishing with 28 points.
Wednesday, 5th August saw 22 men contest a Stroke and Putting round. Recently returned from his Canadian trip, Mic Spagnolo (9) took the honours with a nett 69. Jim Redmond (22), ever reliable, was second with nett 72, followed by Brian Simmons (13) with nett 74. Mic also won the putting with an incredible 21 putts! Peter Johnston was NTP on the 2nd, while Russ Wealands took out the Club Award.
Last Saturday saw 21 men contest the final round of the 54-Hole Event, with the day also doubling as the Monthly Medal. Young Cody Dunne (26) continued his good form to win the day, and his second Monthly Medal of the year, with a superb nett 68. His dad, Chris Dunne (5), finished second with nett 71, followed by Kevin Coghlan (23) with nett 72. Anthony La Grutta (15) was fourth with nett 73, just ahead of Jobe Dunne (15) on nett 74.
Chris Dunne won the putting with 24 putts. There was no NTP on the 11th, while John Renehan took out the Club Award.
The 54-Hole Event was won by Anthony La Grutta with 19 points, from Peter Johnston on 17 points and Phil Armstrong on 15 points.
Congratulations to all the winners and placegetters, and hopefully the improving weather will soon see the course drying out and the preferred lies put away for another year.
