Golf Ladies Retain their BOWL!!

Time, once again, has graced us with our annual Yea Bowl event. This year, a small field, unfortunately, a sign of the times, 40 lovely ladies from near and far, travelled to our awesome Golf course, which was shining brightly in a crisp Autumn morning to try their luck.

The day moving smoothly, one which blossomed into a glorious day for playing golf. Some of the scores reflecting so. Although a little dry, to be expected as surrounds also showing the signs at the lack of rain, even so the course was still in great condition. Many thanks to the diligent care from the volunteer workers, keeping it so.

All having completed their game was time to return to the Clubhouse for the much needed sustenance, well earnt by all. The well known Lady golf chefs did not disappoint. An abundance of soups to choose from, tasty sandwiches to accompany, finished with a huge array of the sweet treats. Yummo!!! If you hadn’t managed to have a great golf game, the food consoled the soul. Thank you Ladies great job!!

Tummies full, it was time to proceed to the formal presentations. Today we were very pleased to have the company of a life member Myrna Patterson, to assist the very sneaky Captain , Jan Wealands, who had been hiding the results for the last minute announcement.

So without any more delay, no more keeping us in suspenders, Jan revealed it had been a very close tussle between two Yea Teams. Last years winners, Sharon Grogan, Mirada Gill and myself Karen Sangster having 97 points, unfortunate for us, we were usurped by Team Margie Wright, Cindy Armstrong and Vicky Butler 98 points. Winners are grinners they say, as picture dictates, if Cindy’s smile got any bigger her face may have split. One very happy camper for sure. Congratulations and well done keeping our Bowl at home.

This year a favourite lady, also a past member, Millie Cummings presented the runner up team a packet of three golf balls each. Millie over many years has provided us with many trophy’s etc and hardly ever fails to come and play on the day. She certainly is a treasure, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you contribute. We love seeing you and each hope we are playing as well as you still are, being the young girl you are. Thank you.

I was also pleased to part of the winning Small Teams event. Many thanks to Margaret Blair putting our team in. I am sure you boosted the score which also had to be a countback, our team, the successor. Margaret managed to have the highest score of the day 42 points. Very impressive indeed.

Member Meryl Connell also deserves a mention, Meryl had a superb drive on the 11th to receive a NTP prize. Well done Meryl, that shot should keep you returning for awhile. Go girl! I am in awe.

Many many thanks to all who contributed on the day, they are too numerous to mention all, but without you all, the day would not have been such a success.

Holding these events is a great way to catch up with those whom, you have not seen for awhile. I, for one, so appreciate the friendships formed over the years, playing the great game of Golf. Also a great way to keep the game of Golf alive. So if you are hesitating going to an event in your district , please don’t, GO and enjoy, keep the game of Golf happening and the friendships made alive, you just never know when it is the last of either. Happy Golfing everyone until we meet again stay safe and well.
