Yea Golf Club have had a busy week with regular competitions on Wednesday and Saturday as well as hosting the DDGA Veterans on Thursday .
Wednesdays 2 Person Ambrose event saw good fields in both the Mens and Ladies event.
Alan Coates / Phil Armstrong 67.75 nett and a narrow win over Brian Priestly / Mick Sheather nett 68 to take out the Mens event which was 2 Person Ambrose. John Phillips threaded his way over the gums to win NTP on the 14th and made it a double when he shared the the Club Award with Stephen Rumney.
Meryl Connell/ Penny Britton combined for a great round to claim first place in the Ladies event from Sharon Grogan / Cindy Armstrong by the slimmest of margins. Meryl Connell made it a double when she claimed NTP on the 14th with a great Tee shot. Meryl is showing some great form after a winter hiatus.
Thursdays Dalhousie Veterans event saw a good field of 41 players compete in great conditions. Mick Sheather continues to give the handicapper headaches claiming the C Grade section with 37 points. Cindy Armstrong with 34 points was next best of the Yealians.
The visiting players had plenty of glowing comments about the course and the ladies catering service under the leadership of Judi Newman.
Earlier in the week renovations of the 7th green commenced with the introduction of a temporary green. Photos of work so far.
Saturday was a Stableford event for both Men and Ladies and with the course in great condition members and guests were encouraged to take advantage.
Despite Footy Finals reaching fever pitch, Saturday’s Stableford event at Royal Yea Golf Club attracted good fields in both the Mens and Ladies Competitions
The Mens competition was taken out by former junior Chris Graham (11) 41 points. A great round of 76 of the stick. Mick Sheather (30) continues to defy the Handicapper with 37 points to claim runner up. Stephen Rumney (28) and another visitor Josh Cunningham (20) both registered 35 points but Stephen took third place on countback. Josh wasn’t left empty handed after taking out NTP on the 18th with a great tee shot. The Club Award went to Tom White.
In the Ladies event Vicki Clements (27) was a comfortable winner , coming in with 37 points. Karen Sangster (28) was next best with 33 points
There is another busy week ahead with the Working Bee on Tuesday to install the irrigation on the 7th green reconstruction. Anyone that is available to lend a hand from 9am would be greatly appreciated
Wednesday competition is a Stableford event and the on Friday 29th we have the Bruce Kindred Cup a 4BBB event which will also included individual Stableford scores Members and guests are welcomed and encouraged to wear their footy club colours making it a fun day. Members are also asked to bring a plate to share. Times for Fridays event are 8.30 for 9am shot gun start.
