Yea GC has had the first round of the Championships for Men plus a wonderful wine & dine event over the weekend. Many tributes were given to a hard working volunteer group of workers who transformed a wet and muddy course into very playable fairways and managed rough.
Saturday saw 24 men and 5 ladies enjoy a bit of sunshine at the course. Winner for the men and monthly medal was Club Captain Alan Pell(18) with nett 70. Second on CB was John Phillips(21) with Ken Whitfort(8) 71 third, Rick Wills(10) fourth on 72 and on CB from fifth Neil Petertson(15) 72. NTP on the 18th was Alan and Jeff Aurisch took out the Club Award. In the Ladies Sue Aurisch(31) won with 26 points from Cindy Armstrong(38) on 25. Chooklotto results were Wayne Rowe – stubbie holder, Koala Cherries – Rick Wills and 2kg Chicken Drumsticks to John Tanner,
The next rounds of the championships are on Saturday and Sunday this coming weekend. Best two rounds out of three will decide the grade winners. In A Grade Anthony Coleman 78 leads from Ken Whitfort 79 and Rick Wills 82. In B grade Alan Pell leads with 86 from Neil Peterson 87 and Rob O’Halloran 92. C Grade leader is John Phillips 91 from Bill Dredge 96 and Russ Wealands 98.
Sunday afternoon saw a 9 hole 2 person ambrose event played followed by a lovely meal at the Clubrooms. Many thanks to Di Holdsworth and her team of workers for the catering. Winners of the front nine were Michael Spagnolo and John Phillips. Winners of the back nine were Fiona and Anthony Coleman.
Sunday saw one of our juniors participate in his first junior event at Woodend. Congratulations to Tom White in finishing second in the handicap event.
Wednesday’s golf last week saw 7 blokes contest a foursomes alternate hit event at Yea. Winners with nett 90 were Russell Wealands/Alan Pell from second Neil Peterson/Rob O’Halloran 91. There was no NTP and Bill Dredge/Neil Ross were the lucky Club Award winners sharing $10.
