Mary Walker Memorial Day

47 people participated in golf on Saturday in the Mary Walker Canadian Foursomes and a mens stableford event. The weather was typical springtime with bouts of icy wind and rain followed by sunshine with little wind. 19 pairs contested the Mary Walker Event. Mary was a tireless worker for the Yea Club. She was the First Lady President of a Victorian Club and a golf fanatic. Tim Quinlan representing the family sponsoring the day said “Mary would have played golf eight days a week if she could!”

Winners of the Mary Walker Canadian foursomes were Di Elliott(30) and Michael Sheather(26) with an excellent 86 off the stick nett 65. Second were Penny Britton(33) and Alan Pell(16) with 87 nett 68 5/8. Third were Sharon Grogan(28) and Mic Spagnolo(9) with 83 nett 69 1/2 and fourth were Brian(13) and Christine Simmons(30) with 89 nett 73 1/4. NTP’s were Michael Sheather on the 2nd, Rick Wills on the 14th, Miranda Gill on the 18th and Brian and Christine Simmons NTP for 2 on the 11th.

Tim Quinlan presented Michael Sheather and Di Elliott their prizes.

In the Mens Stableford young Oakley Ness(24) played an outstanding round of 42 points to win from his father Jono(18) second with 38 points. Oakley’ s handicap has reduced from 42 to 24 this year. It will further decrease if he continues this form. Great to see life member Terry Chaplin back at the club and he took out NTP for the 11th in the stableford event.
