Hawk in Hawker

Hey Yea Golfers! Captain Alan reporting on my golfing exploits while on holidays. Terri and I spent a couple of days in Burra, South Australia exploring the old copper mining town and of course I played 9 holes at their Golf Course. It was similar to Yea, $20 Green fee, rated 124 and with good grass greens. Our fairways and surrounds were much better however.

Terri and I then went to the Flinders Ranges and based ourselves in a town called Hawker. We had a fabulous time and couldn’t believe the variety and depth of the scenery here. And of course, Alan found the local golf course! It is a 9 hole sand scrape that was feeling the effects of drought. The scrapes were black due to the sump oil they use. The fairways were almost bare with fine stones everywhere. I had trouble finding the honesty box/card to play but enjoyed the experience. Rated 107 and playing off 11 I would have had 16 stableford points and 42 off the stick.

Talk about Green Fees!

There were no trolleys or buggies, so I took 4 clubs and played 9 holes while I left Terri to pack up the motel this morning. We are heading to Coonawarra over the weekend and I’ll post an update.
