Pelly ensures Ladies do the Cooking!

Alan Pell displays the Annual Gender Challenge Trophy –
won in 2018 by the Men, Men, Men … made by Rob O”Halloran

Carding his personal best ever, 18 hole score of 75 off the stick Alan Pell, single handedly set the ladies the task of cooking next week after today’s final round of the Summer Gender Challenge.

Playing off a handicap of 10 Pelly scored 41 stableford points to take the honours in his match with Miranda Gill. Vicki Clements 38 had the best score for the Ladies, Miranda was runner up with 36 pts. Karen Sangster 35 and Laraine Callander 34 pts joined in the ladies ball run down. Jan Wealands was recipient of the Ladies Club Award.

With Pelly outstanding and not doing too much wrong (on the course!) today, many of the blokes appeared to take it easy! Jeff Aurisch 34 was runner-up and Bob Glenister 33 and Russ Wealands 31 picked up a ball or two. Trev Connell took out NTP on the 18th (with his first shot of the day). Bruce Kindred received the Club Award.

Being the final day and the Men holding a solid, but not insurmountable lead 10 points were made available for each individual ‘match play’ between the 12 ladies against 12 men, so the Ladies still had an outside chance…… but the results of those individual contests was 6 all. The final scores for 2018 were Ladies 342 to the Men 410.

With an excellent field today of 29 players (17 men / 12 ladies) the 2018 Gender Challenge has been an outstanding success both socially and financially for the Club. Our thanks to everyone who joined in and made the gender challenge such a success ……

Next week it’s a 7.30 assembly for 8am hit off in a mixed individual stableford competition for the Anne Baynes Memorial Trophy …..and then enjoy a sumptuous lunch kindly prepared and served by the Ladies!
