Jeff still in good form
The 2016 medal play off for the men was held at Yea Golf Club on Saturday. Jeff Aurisch, who had won 2 monthly medals during the year, was the best performer of the medalists on the day and won the play off. His score of 69 nett was equal best of the day but he had to take 2nd place in the daily medal event, to Neil Peterson who also had 69 nett but won the count back. Other good score on the day were Bob Glenister, Trevor Connell and Gary Pollard, all with nett 70. Bob won the daily putting competition with only 25 putts. Peter Keast put in a strong bid for the club award with a nett 82 but was pipped at the post by the last man in, Carl Maffei, with nett 83. There were 24 players in the field and 5 women played a separate event. Jan Wealands had an excellent nett 67 to win from Marj Gouldthorpe on 71. Marj also won the women’s putting.
Wednesday was the second last round of the gender challenge and the men have found themselves with a slight lead. Peter Johnston was the day’s winner with 37 stableford points. Marj Gouldthorpe and Ian Jones also had 37 points and Vicki Clements was 4th with 36. Martin Lowe was NTP and Alan Pell had a comfortable victory in the club award. Extra points are available for the final round on Wednesday so a close finish is expected.
The trophies for the recently completed men’s eclectic were also handed out on Saturday. Bob Glenister was the scratch winner with 60, winning by one shot from Michael Spagnolo. In the handicap section the places were reversed with Michael’s nett 55 winning from Bob’s nett 56.
