Royal Yea Golf Club Report
We are looking forward to some spring sunshine to dry out the course. Wednesday saw five men start the round, but persistent rain meant that only four made it to the finish. Well done, guys, but unfortunately there was no competition on the day.
Saturday, after two days without rain, saw 20 men play the first round of the A. H. Smith Trophy, played as a Stableford, while seven ladies contested their Monthly Medal.
The men’s winner was Alan Pell (14) with 35 points, followed by Tom White (16) on 33 points. Paul Heyen (23) finished third on a countback from Andrew Bohn (5) in fourth. There was no NTP on the 18th, while John Renehan won the Club Award.
In the first semi-final of the Club Knockout, Luke Gregory defeated Zach Pell 29 points to 27. The other semi-final between Bob Glenister and Peter Johnston will be played shortly. Next Saturday is the second and final round of the A. H. Smith Trophy.
In the Ladies’ event, players found the course very heavy. In the Monthly Medal, Sharon Grogan (23) was the winner with a nett 79, followed by Cindy Armstrong (32) with a nett 84.
