June Monthly Medal

With cooler weather but no rain, conditions at Royal Yea were pretty good on Saturday. The 30 mm received last weekend has seen a green tinge appear but further rain will be required for any substantial grass growth. The men were playing their Monthly Medal with 18 players. Winner with nett 70 was Captain Alan Pell(12) from Steve Rumney(23) on nett 71 on CB from third Martin Lowe(17). Fourth was Zach Pell(8) with nett 73 on CB from Bob Glenister(10). Brian Simmons was NTP on the 11th and Kevin Coghlan again won the Club Award. Putting was achieved by Alan Pell with much astonishment with 25 putts!

Wednesday was also a cold day with 16 men playing a stableford round. The sun finally appreared as most players were finishing!! Winner was Anthony La Grutta(18) with 35 points on CB from Runner-Up Peter Johnston(15). Third was Brian Simmons(10) with 33 points. Steve Rumney was NTP on the 11th and Brian Priestley won a four way CB for the Club Award.

The ladies played stableford on both days with Jan Wealands(27) 34 points winning from Christine Simmons(23) with 29 on Wednesday. Saturday saw Sharon Grogan(24) with 29 points winning from Cindy Armstrong(25) with 25 second.

Our monthly social night was a great success. A full moon and being Friday 13th didn’t deter around 55 members and guests gathering for our Black Cat Bingo Social Night. After a delicious serving of Lamb Shanks prepared by guest Chef Polly Dorset it was eyes down for Black Cat Bingo. In an entertaining call all players were on the edge of their seats until No 99 was drawn out to decide the winner. The Clubhouse erupted with glee as 34 players shouted BINGO. Talk about a close finish. It was decided that the final dividend of $3 each should be donated back to the club. A very generous donation. Lots of fun, lots of oohs & aahs and lots of laughter. Many thanks to the wonderful volunteers who manned the Bar and helped serving & cleanup in the Kitchen. Glen & Shirley Walsh headed back to Tea Tree Road with the Yea Meats – Meat Tray in their possession. Pity the Ravens failed to salute in the footy would have made it a double for Glen.

Glen and Shirley.
