The following sections outlines the conditions for different Board and Special Events held throughout the year (see events calendar).
NOTE: These conditions may be varied at the discretion of the Match Committee.
Mens
SICHLAU TROPHY:
6 stroke rounds, with 4 best nett rounds to count. In the event of a tie there will be a
play off over 18 holes and if the scores are tied a count back on the playoff round. In
the event of a round being abandoned the number of rounds to count may be
reduced. Handicap as at date of play.
MONTHLY MEDAL:
Best nett stroke round of day. Count back system to resolve a tie.
GOLD MEDAL PLAY OFF:
Winners of Monthly Medals in previous 12 months, January to November. Best nett
score. Count back system to apply. Handicap as at day of play.
ECLECTIC COMPETITION:
Best scratch score for each of the 18 holes over the calendar year.
In the handicap section there will be a reduction of 1/2 the player’s handicap held on
the last day of competition.
CLARK TROPHY:
Best aggregate nett score*, all grades, in the three rounds of the Championship.
Handicap as at day of play. In the event of a tie the best third round nett score will
count. If there is still a tie there will be a count back on the last round.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Championships will be played in A, B and C grades with the Club Champion being the player with the lowest scratch score. Grade cut offs are to be decided by the Match Committee. Players will remain in the grade in which they commenced the Championship. The third (Final) round of the Club Championships will require the leading contenders in each Grade to play at set times as determined by the Match Committee. In the event of a tie in any grade there will be a sudden death playoff. Playoff holes will be 10,18,10,18 etc. Handicap Championship will run concurrent with this event.10, 18 etc. Handicap Championship will run concurrent
with this event.
J.B. MOORE TROPHY:
2 rounds of Stableford. In the event of a tie there will be a play off over 18 holes. If
there is still a tie there will be a count back on the play-off round. Handicaps will be
as at the day of play.
A.H. SMITH TROPHY:
36 holes Stableford. If scores are tied there will be a count back using the AGU
system. Handicaps will be as at the day of play.
N.J. MURRAY TROPHY:
As for A.H. Smith Trophy.
PRIDEAUX CUP:
Same conditions as for the J.B. Moore Trophy.
AMBROSE:
Handicap for group of four will be 1/8 of the aggregate, three will be 1/6 of the
aggregate and two will be ¼ of the aggregate.
BIRDIE HOLE:
Each Saturday, the programme has a Birdie hole listed. If any player in the
competition birdies this hole, each player in that competitor’s group is entitled to one
free drink from the Bar. The drink must be taken on the same day as the competition.
BISQUE PAR:
In a Bisque Par, the player chooses which holes he/she would like to take their
handicap shots on, rather than using the index. E.g. a play off 12 Handicap would
choose which 12 holes they will take 1 one shot on. The player must nominate if they
are going to use a shot before they hit off on that hole.
MID-WEEK HEAT POLICY:
During the summer months Wednesday is 7.30 assembly for 8am tee-off. However,
on days of extreme hot weather early starts from 7 am are encouraged.
CLUB KNOCK-OUT
Players (32) to be drawn to play each other in (16 matches) in the first round. The
1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds can be 9 or 18 hole contests, agreed upon before play
starts. Players must play in the same group but can use social or club events which
involve Stableford, Stroke or Par to determine a winner. Count backs will decide the
result. Semi-finals and the final must be 18 hole events. If matches are not played or
notified by the due date then both players will be eliminated from the knockout.
PAIRS “22”
Two players playing Individual Stableford with their points on each hole earning a
combined number determining their result. If either player earns 0 or 1 then that
means the team can only receive a low outcome: ie. 01,02,03,04,05, 11,12,13,14,15.
If both score 2 then they receive a Pair 22 result. If they score better than 22 they
receive a high outcome: ie.32,33,42,43,44,52,53,54,55
Ladies
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2024: (A, B, C & D GRADES)
Three Stroke Rounds. Handicap Championship will run concurrent with this event. Club Champions are the players with the lowest scratch score. Grade cut offs are determined by the Match Committee. Players remain in the grade in which they commenced the Championship. On the final round leaders in each grade must play together. In the event of a tie there will be a sudden death play-off. Play-off holes are10,18, 10,18 etc. If a draw for 36-hole events (Kath Homewood & Mona Clark) there will be a count back on the last 18 holes of the event
FOURSOME:
A match in which two players are paired together and play against another two-player
pair. Each pair plays one ball. Players play alternative tees, and alternate shots during play.
FOUR BALL BETTER BALL:
Teams (2) compete against each other using the better of the two players’ scores for each hole.
Both players hit off and the select the best ball. Halve the handicap.
AMBROSE:
2-3 players hit off as a team. Select the best ball of the team, other players take their ball to the
selected ball, drop and all hit from there. Repeat to the hole.
SILVER SPOON:
Golf Australia Silver Spoon was first played in 1921 and commences with Club qualifying rounds
and winners proceeding to the State Final. Each club shall arrange four stroke or stableford
rounds on dates decided by the Club, then a final round play-off to decide the winner. The winner
will then go on to represent the Club in the Silver Spoon State Final. Winners from each Club
qualifying will play individual stableford. The player recording the best 18 hole stableford score will
win the Silver Spoon Final and be presented with the Case of Spoons.
DORIS CHAMBERS CUP:
The Golf Australia Doris Chambers Cup is an 18-Hole Foursomes Stableford event. The perpetual
trophy was donated by Miss Doris Chambers OBE, former Ladies Golf Union President and was
first played in 1950. Competition Procedure
First stage at Yea will take the form of 18 holes Foursomes Stableford. Second Stage to be
played TBA.
ROYAL WOMEN’S HOSPITAL (RWH) 4BBB:
The Golf Australia RWH 4BBB Stableford Competition is a state-wide competition that raises
funds to purchase new equipment and to train specialist doctors in urogynaecology, for the pelvic-
floor dysfunction unit at the RWH.
MONA CLARK STABLEFORD EVENT (2 ROUNDS):
First Mona Clark Shield was awarded by Mona in 1984. Mona started playing at Yea aged 18 in
1934 and continued to play for more than 50 years. Mona was made a life member and was also
President in 1963, 64 & 65.
MARGARET SAMBLEBE BROOCH: 18 HOLE STABLEFORD EVENT
Margaret joined the club in 1989 and was a member until 1996. During this time, she was a
Handicap Manager. Margaret Samblebe Brooch was donated in memory of Margaret by her
family in 1996. The brooch can only be won once, but each year the winner is recorded on a
plaque.
KATH HOMEWOOD: 36 HOLES STROKE AGGREGATE – 2 x 18 HOLE STROKE
Kath join the club in 1959 (approx.). Lady Captain in 1971, 72, 74, 75, 97 & 98. Lady President in
1985, 86, 94, 95 & 96. Pennant player for years. Lady President of Dalhousie. Life Member of
Yea Golf Club. Represented Yea at numerous Inter-club tournaments with much success. During
her membership she won most club events, sometimes more than once. Tireless worker,
generous with her food and flowers for all events.
MARY WALKER MEMORIAL SHIELD: This mixed Stableford event is sponsored by the Quinlan family. Mary Walker was the first lady President of not only the Yea Golf Club but also Golf Victoria. Mary was also a tireless worker.
BIRDIES and GOBBLERS:
Competition of birdies and gobblers to be conducted during all competition events at Yea
throughout the season from March to end of February.
ECLECTIC:
Best scratch score for each of the 18 holes of competition throughout the season.
Eclectic Handicap – there will be a reduction of ½ the player’s handicap on the last day of
competition, being end of February.
MONTHLY MEDAL:
Eight stroke rounds during the season. Monthly winners play off for the Gold Medal
PUTTING:
Eight rounds during the season, to be played with the Monthly Medal. The best score wins a golf
ball on the day.
